TRIM HAYMAKING FESTIVAL
SCYTHE CUTTING COMPETITION
A TEST OF SKILL AND STRENGTH
The scene is set for the Trim Haymaking Festival Scythe Cutting Competition which is our main competition of the day.
Scythes are sharpened, hard-working hands are ready, back to old scythe traditions and only a small margin will separate the cream of the crop as they vie for the trophy.
Scythe work was a traditional method when taking in the crops. The work involved is back breaking and endless in terms of the area one can cover over a certain amount of time. Unlike the luxury of modern day methods this is how our ancestors worked the fields and crops and one can only imagine the physical endurance involved. There is as you can see always a fun aspect to our events also.
We can confirm that there were one or two pretty nails broken on this day in the photo’s.
